We are in the final process of converting the Jeppesen online pilot training courses to HTML5. The courses were originally authored in Adobe Flash, which will no longer be supported in common browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.) after 2020.

Along with the conversion, the courses will receive some exciting new functionality including support on all HTML5-compatible mobile devices (iOS and Android).

The courses are being converted in phases, with all work scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020.

  • Private Pilot Online Part 141 (item 10183560)
  • Private Pilot Online Part 61 (item 10025785)
  • Instrument Pilot Online Part 141 (item 10183561)

  • Commercial Pilot Online Single-Engine (item 10164917)

What do customers need to do?
Great news! No action is required, and all the updates will be seamless. While we’re addressing the Flash retirement, we are adding new functionality to improve user experience.

What’s improved?

  • Learn on-the-go, anytime, anywhere with new mobile access—the HTML5 course content will be compatible with iOS, Android and other HTML5-compatible mobile devices

What stays the same?

  • The HTML5 lessons will have the same rich content and graphics as currently used in our existing Flash-based courses
  • The HTML5 courses will use the same product item numbers and ecommerce pages as the current Flash-based courses
  • The existing online reports will not change—the same fields currently reported through the Learning Management System (LMS) will be available for the HTML5 courses
  • Training organizations will be able to access training records for the last 24 months

What changes?

  • While the prices will stay the same for the remainder of 2020, once all of the courses are converted to HTML5, then access and licensing terms will revert back to one-year periods. Prices at the start of 2021 will revert to 2019 prices for the annual subscription.
  • The Jeppesen Garmin G1000 online courses are not being converted and have been discontinued (item codes 10025767, 10025768, 10176630 and 11151494)

Jeppesen deployment steps

For end users:

  • For lessons completed prior to the HTML5 content conversion, the completion status will change from “Completed” to “Completed (Equivalent)” after the conversion
Training Progress
  • Lessons completed in the Flash content will be reviewed in the HTML5 version after the conversion
  • For lessons in the “In Progress” status, lesson progress will be reset and users will start fresh with the HTML5 content after the conversion
  • For lessons currently in the “Registered” status, users will start with the HTML5 content

For instructors:
Instructors will run the report as usual. There are two changes to the existing Training Hours report:

  1. Though the status of a completed course will change from Completed to Completed (Equivalent) in a student’s Training Details page after the conversion, the report will display the time spent in the course prior to the conversion with a Completed status.
  2. Time spent in reviewing a course with Completed (Equivalent) status will not be tracked in the report.

We hope you find these updates and improvements helpful as you progress along your aviation journey.
