Messages that may appear in the install.log when an installation fails:

In the following example, the highlighted messages appear in the log file immediately before the installation fails. The message "sudo: /etc/sudoers is owned by uid 1, should be 0" indicates a permissions problem in the OS. The sudoers file is not owned by the root user (UID 0) as it should be.

MacOS Yosemite and earlier had a Restore Permissions feature in the Disk Utility application that was useful for fixing permissions problems in MacOS. However, Apple no longer includes the Restore Permissions feature in the latest versions of MacOS. It may be possible to change the ownership of the sudoers file back to root by booting into single-user mode (Command-S at bootup) and running a chown command, but customers should contact Apple Support for assistance with correcting permissions problems like this.
