PROBLEM:
The message "UNABLE TO DISPLAY CHART" appears when attempting to display charts for an airport on a Garmin G1000.
CAUSE:
Garmin G1000s with a GDU software version older than 15.25 are unable to display charts for airports that have more than 32 NOTAMs in the Jeppesen charts database (also known as Jeppesen terminal chart change notices). The Garmin software calculates this as the number of airport-specific NOTAMs PLUS the number of country-wide NOTAMs in the Jeppesen charts database.
The number of Jeppesen terminal chart change notices can be determined by viewing the current Chart Change Notice documents for the corresponding region at https://ww2.jeppesen.com/notices/ . If subscribed to a VFR charts coverage in addition to an IFR charts coverage, the VFR Terminal Chart Change Notice for Europe document should also be checked. Include the number of notices in both the General (country-wide) and Terminal (airport-specific) categories.

RESOLUTION:
As the number of NOTAMs change from one charts cycle to the next, the error may no longer be encountered after loading the next charts cycle.
To prevent this from occurring again, contact Garmin or an avionics shop to see if your G1000 can be updated to GDU software version 15.25 or later.
