PROBLEM:
The following message appears when programming an update in Jeppesen Distribution Manager (JDM):
"File format is incorrect. The current format is ''. Please insert media that has a file format of "
CAUSE:
Some avionics devices require the storage media to be in a specific format, such as FAT16 or FAT32. JDM will inform you if the storage media you are attempting to program is not in the correct file system format.
RESOLUTION:
To reformat the storage media to the correct file system format:
Windows
- First, make sure you are certain which drive on your computer is the removable storage media for your avionics.
- From the Windows search field, enter Computer and select Computer System.
- Locate the drive for your removable storage media. If you aren't sure which one is correct, disconnect your removable storage media and note which drive disappears and then reappears upon reconnecting it.
- Right-click the drive letter and select Format.
- Select the correct File System for your avionics device (FAT for FAT16, or FAT32), then select Start. It will warn you that all data will be deleted, select OK.
Mac OS X
Although you can reformat a drive in Mac OS X by going to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility, it's not possible to format it to FAT16 this way. We recommend formatting the drive to FAT (FAT16) using a Windows computer.
